This product is the dried mature fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, a plant of the Rubiaeae family. The fruits are harvested in September to November when they mature and turn reddish-yellow. The stems and impurities are removed, and the fruits are steamed until they are slightly heated or briefly scalded in boiling water, then removed and dried.
[Functions and Indications] Clears heat and relieves restlessness, clears heat and promotes diuresis, cools blood and detoxifies; externally used to reduce swelling and relieve pain. Used for febrile diseases with restlessness, damp-heat jaundice, urinary tract infections with dysuria, blood heat hematemesis and epistaxis, red and swollen eyes, and fire-toxin sores and ulcers; externally treats bruises and contusions.
